It’s really tempting to do certain things while you’re having roof shingles replaced or getting a new roof installation, but you have to consider the consequences before you do. Here are the most common things that people are tempted to do while they’re getting a new roof installed.
No BBQ’s
You hear the banging on your roof, and you can’t wait to see your new roof. You’re thinking, “I know. I’ll kick off the festivities with a barbeque.” This is a bad idea. For starters, you’re going to be placing a large amount of smoke in the air, which will probably blind the roofers causing them to stumble off your roof. As you can imagine, that’ll extend the time it’ll take to do your roof. Then, you have the enticing smells of the barbeque. You can basically expect no one to be up on your roof at that point. Just stay inside and cook something deep in your oven, so you can cover up the smell, like a casserole. Better yet, just eat out.
Volleyball
We know, volleyball is tempting, but imagine what’ll happen if you are playing with Aunt Lucy and that hips slips. She’ll cause the ball to fly, and it’ll probably knock a few of the roofers onto the ground. Then again, you might end up with extra players. In that case, expect your roof to take up to a week to complete, and just consider it a plus that you have front-row seats to watch the game. Grab the lemonade.
Water Balloon Fights
This one is a no-brainer. It’s not funny to launch a few, yelling, “Think fast!” A roofer might drop the tar to catch your balloon, and we already know what happens when your roof got wet last time. Save the laughs for later, and let the roofers focus on waterproofing your roof.
Clean the Roof
When you’re getting your roof replacement, it’s not the time to worry about how messy your old roof is. You might know someone in the house who is worried about keeping up appearances, but just hide the hose from them. In fact, don’t even tell them you’re getting a new roof. Let them think that you’re taking them out for a movie and bowling. When you get back, yell, “Surprise!” You’ll avoid so many hassles, and you’ll be the hero.
